Research

The discovery of Laura Locoul Gore’s manuscript, “Memories of the Old Plantation Home,” at the beginning of the restoration of Laura Plantation in 1993, opened the door to ongoing research in private and public archives in Louisiana, the broader United States, and France.

More recently, the Civil War Pension Records housed at the National Archives in Washington, DC have been of utmost importance in our efforts to tell the stories of 9 formerly enslaved men from L’Habitation Duparc-Locoul who fought for freedom in the Union Army during the Civil War.
