Restoration Updates - Fall 2005

On August 29, 2005 - Hurricane Katrina made landfall at the border of Louisiana & Mississippi causing severe damage, particularly when levees broke in the city of New Orleans inundating many of the residential areas of the city.  Fortunately the city's most historic neighborhood - the French Quarter was not flooded nor damaged.  Also the areas near the Convention Center, Wharehouse District, Garden District and Audubon Park were also spared flooding.  These are the areas where tourists visit, so this is good news for those who love to visit New Orleans and Louisiana.

Thankfully the areas further west of the city, particularly along the Great River Road all plantations were spared.  This area did not receive any flooding and only minor wind damage in the forms of tree limbs and branches.  However, the construction crew at Laura were all residents of New Orleans so some of them sustained severe or complete damage to their own homes; furthermore, they were displaced with relatives all over the country from the East Coast to the West Coast.  So for nearly all of September and October and the first week of November, very little work was completed.  At this time a smaller crew was able to re-assemble in early November to move forward with the next phase of work - the ROOF!
